Sleep apnea is a very serious medical condition in which a person momentarily stops breathing during their sleep. Therefore, it is important to know the signs that may indicate that you have this condition so you can get prompt medical treatment from a sleep apnea treatment center.

Excessively Loud Snoring

Snoring is not automatically a warning that you have sleep apnea. However, loud and persistent snoring night after night may be a sign of it. Of course, you are unlikely to realize that you are snoring unless someone tells you. If someone that sleeps in the same room as you, or even the next room over can hear you snore throughout the night, they will probably tell you about it. They might even express that they have trouble sleeping because your snoring is really getting out of control. That is a sign that you need to be seen by a doctor. You are most likely snoring due to a obstruction in your airways, that can sometimes be a problem found in patients with sleep apnea.

Suddenly Awakening While Trying To Catch Your Breath

If you find that you are occasionally snapping out of a deep sleep with the feeling that you need to gasp for air, you may have sleep apnea and will need to be examined by a specialist. This is a sign that while you were sleeping, you stopping breathing for a short moment, but luckily your body responded and you jumped to alertness and began to breathe again.

Excessive Tiredness During The Day

Becoming a little tired during the middle of a long day is normal for many people. However, if you are consistently finding that no matter how relaxing your day is and no matter how much time you spent sleeping in bed, you are feeling as though you could fall asleep at any point during the day, it could be due to sleep apnea. When you have this condition, even though you are asleep, you are not getting quality sleep and after a while, this will lead to excessive sleepiness during the day. Therefore, if you are finding that there are more days of the week where you simply feel as though you can never get enough sleep, it is time to contact a professional that specializes in sleep apnea.

After reviewing those three signs of a possible sleep apnea problem, you will be able to determine whether it is time to talk to a professional.
