3 Types Of Bite Issues That Can Be Fixed Using Dental Veneers

Posted on: 7 June 2016

A bite issue can happen when opposing or neighboring teeth are not in the correct position, which causes discomfort or pain when you hold your mouth shut or chew on food. A major bite problem, which include crowding and severe overbites, should be fixed using oral surgery and orthodontics. Small bite problems can actually be fixed using dental veneers. The artificial shells will help cover and reshape your existing teeth in these 3 situations.

Teeth That Are Wide-Spaced

Do your neighboring teeth have a big gap between them that need to be fixed? Dental veneers can fix this problem by filling in these gaps that are small enough to not justify using orthodontics to fix, but big enough to create issues with your bite.

The process involves shaving down the enamel on the front of your teeth to make the room to install the veneers. Every veneer is custom made to fit your teeth so that the spacing looks appropriate. The final veneers are attached using bonding cement.

The new veneers work by taking the teeth surrounding the gap and making a veneer that is slightly bigger than the existing tooth. It will be large enough to close the gap, but small enough so it does not look oversized or unnatural.

Open Bites

Open bites can happen when your front upper teeth are too high when compared to the front lower teeth. A gap will still be present between your lower and upper jaw when you clench your teeth together.

These gaps can be closed using dental veneers if the gap is small enough. In order to balance out the veneers that will cause the appearance of slightly bigger teeth, both lower and upper veneers will be placed on your teeth. It helps both sets of teeth come together in the center without making the upper or lower teeth appear stretched out in comparison to the other.

Midline Misalignments

Midline misalignments are when your upper front teeth are shifted to either side of your lower front teeth, making the smile look crooked. While extreme cased must be fixed with orthodontics, veneers can fix minor problems. Veneers will just be used on the upper or lower jaw to cause the appearance that the teeth have been shifted over to align in the middle.
