3 Tips For Choosing The Perfect Toothbrush

Posted on: 24 March 2016

The first step to taking good care of your teeth is to have the perfect toothbrush. A good toothbrush will be easier to use which will make brushing more pleasant and will encourage you to do it more often. Plus, it will do a better job of getting your teeth nice and clean. If you consider these three things when shopping for a toothbrush, you can ensure that you choose the right one for your needs.

1. Choose Softer Bristles

Avoid assuming that a toothbrush with harder bristles is going to give you a better clean. A toothbrush that has too-hard bristles can actually scrub off the enamel that protects your teeth, especially if you consider that many toothpaste formulas already include abrasive ingredients, such as baking soda. Look for a toothbrush that features softer bristles to avoid damaging the enamel on your teeth or irritating your gums.

2. Focus on Size

If your toothbrush is too large for your mouth, it can be difficult for you to maneuver it around properly, which can make it tough for you to get your teeth clean on all sides. If you have a larger mouth, then a larger toothbrush will be fine. If you have a smaller mouth, however, you will want to look for a toothbrush that has a smaller head. In fact, you may even want to consider looking at the children's toothbrushes at the store if you have a really small mouth -- not only will a smaller children's toothbrush be easier to maneuver around your mouth, but it should also have soft bristles.

3. Choose a Toothbrush That's Comfortable and Easy to Use

If your toothbrush does not feel comfortable in your hands, it will be more difficult to use. Consider trying different brands so that you can determine which one provides the most comfortable grip for your hand size. A manual toothbrush will be fine if you use it properly, but if you want to try an electric toothbrush, make sure that you don't choose one that is too bulky for you to use comfortably.

As you can see, there are a few things that you should look for when shopping around for the perfect toothbrush. Luckily, if you consider these three things and check out a nice selection of toothbrushes rather than just grabbing one based off of color or price, you can experience a better brushing experience and can take better care of your teeth.
