What Braces Colors Make Your Teeth Look Whiter?
Posted on: 22 March 2015
Braces put more focus on your teeth. So, unless your teeth are naturally bright white, it's important to choose your rubber band colors wisely. After all, the last thing you want to do is choose a color that brings out the stains on your teeth. Before your next orthodontist visit, check out these tips so that you know what type of colors to choose and what colors to avoid.
Colors to Avoid
A good rule of thumb is to stay away from lighter colors, because the more contrast you have between the rubber bands on your braces and your teeth, the whiter your teeth look. This means that you should avoid white rubber bands completely. Also, if you have a choice between two shades of the same color, always choose the darker of the two.
Even if you have bright, white teeth, you should steer clear of yellow bands, as well as bands in colors that have a yellow base. This means that you need to avoid green elastics if the green has a yellow tint, red elastics unless the red has blue undertones, and orange elastics.
Colors That Make Your Teeth Look Whiter
Dark colors provide contrast, making your teeth appear whiter. So, black elastics are an obvious choice, but what do you do if you want colorful bands? Dark blue and red are great options, but avoid dark green and brown, because these colors will make it look like you have food stuck in your teeth.
If you don't like the idea of wearing dark-colored elastics on your teeth, bright colors also work well. So, choose colors such as hot pink and electric blue over colors such as baby blue and pink.
Go Neutral
Another option is to choose elastic colors that blend in with your braces. While bands in colors such as silver, gray, and clear won't make your teeth appear whiter, they also won't bring out the stains in your teeth.
If you hate the look of braces completely, ask your orthodontist if you can switch to Invisalign aligner trays. The clear aligners are customized for each patient, so most people won't even notice that you're straightening your teeth.
Ultimately, the color of elastic bands that you wear on your braces is entirely up to you. Whether you choose to go neutral, opt for a fun color scheme, or switch to an Invisalign treatment, you should always chose the option that makes you feel good about your appearance.
